[Resolved] Dial-up Issues (Updated 12/19/2016)
Note: The most recent updates on the issues, described below, will be added to the bottom of this post.
There is, as of 12/9/2016, a known issue affecting some Dial-up Internet access users. This issue only affects Dial-up users. All other services, including Broadband DSL, are unaffected. Our dial-up carrier partner has provided the following update:
D-Link routers contain buffer overflow vulnerability (VU#332115, CVE-2016-5681)
Several models of D-Link DIR routers contain a vulnerability that may be used to remotely compromise the device. If you use a D-Link DIR router, please review the US-CERT Vulnerability Note and D-Link public advisory to determine if your specific model is affected.
[Partially Resolved] Office Telephone Outage
Widomaker’s business telephone lines are experiencing intermittent trouble. This is frequently preventing us from making or receiving calls, or it causes call quality to be so poor that effective communication is not possible. Our telephone provider is aware of the issue and will, hopefully, have it resolved soon.
If you need to reach us during this time and your call is not answered, or if communication is difficult due to the poor call quality, please e-mail us, or leave a voice mail message, which we will return, during business hours.
Today is the Last Day to Upgrade to Windows 10 for Free
As you may already be aware, Microsoft has been offering free upgrades to the latest version of Windows (Windows 10) to users of Windows 7 and 8.1. That free upgrade offer ends after today, Friday, July 29, 2016.
For a home user, Windows 10 is considered, by many experts, to be the most secure Windows version, so far. As a result, you may want to consider upgrading before the end of the free upgrade period, that ends today.

[Resolved] Unplanned E-mail & Server Downtime 5/4/16 – wilma.widomaker.com
At approximately 7:00PM ET, on May 4th 2016, one of Widomaker’s servers (wilma.widomaker.com) stopped responding. A ticket has been opened with the server provider and they are investigating. We hope they will resolve the issue quickly and restore service.
[Resolved] Unplanned Server Downtime 4/30/16 – wilma.widomaker.com
Shortly after noon, on Saturday, April 30th, 2016, one of Widomaker’s servers (wilma.widomaker.com) became unavailable. The server hosting provider has acknowledged an issue with the hypervisor running that server. The server hosting provider has opened a ticket and is working to resolve the problem.
Avoid Tech Support Scams
This is a reminder to avoid falling for Tech Support Scams.
Tech Support Scams, typically, involve someone cold calling a potential victim, saying they are with a trusted organization or company, such as Microsoft or Windows, and warning that the victim’s computer is malfunctioning or infected with a dangerous virus. Then the caller (scammer) offers to help by having the victim download software, or remotely connecting to the victim’s computer, to fix the problem.

Apparently there was significant file system corruption following the previous Unscheduled Emergency Maintenance for wilma.widomaker.com, Friday, March 18 2016, 8:00 PM EDT.
This issue only effects users with an e-mail address that ends with @widomaker.com (or @tni.net).

Due to a drive failure, one of our servers, wilma.widomaker.com, will be shutdown for approximately 15 to 25 minutes, starting around 8:00PM ET, today, March 18th, 2016. During that time, some services, provided by that server, will be unavailable.
