[Fixed] DSL Outage Williamsburg 07/26/2011

Please note, some DSL customers in the Wmbg/NN areas may be having trouble getting connected to the internet. The common error message is 679 or if you have a router, simply the page cannot be displayed yet your modem will show it’s synched. We are aware of the problem and working with the Network Engineers to resolve this as quick as possible, so please keep trying until this problem is resolved.

7/26/11 7:00p: No ETR as of yet. Have been told that Network Engineers are working the trouble.

7/27/11 1:22p: The phone company has found the faulty equipment is working to repair/replace it.  We do not have an ETR yet, but will keep this post and the voice system up-to-date with any information we get as we get it.

7/27/11 4:00p: Outage looks to be cleared.

[FIXED] DSL Outage (WMBG/NN)

Please note, some DSL customers in the Wmbg/NN areas may be having trouble getting connected to the internet. The common error message is 679 or if you have a router, simply the page cannot be displayed yet your modem will show it’s synched. We are aware of the problem and working with the Network Engineers to resolve this as quick as possible, so please keep trying until this problem is resolved.

3/7/11 1:00a: No ETR as of yet. Have been told that Network Engineers are working the trouble.

3/7/11 12:00p: It was discovered that the phone company network was unable to pass traffic to our customers due to a lack of IP connections.  More connections are being added and hope to have all systems running in the next 1 – 2 hours.

3/7/11 2:40p: Service is restored.  Customers will need to turn off their DSL Modems/Routers by removing the power cord (black round cord) or if they have a switch, turn it off.  Count to 10 very slowly.  Then plug in or switch on and give the devices 2 – 3 minutes to power cycle up.  After this you should be able to surf the internet normally.

[FIXED] DSL and Mail Connection Issues

As of roughly 7am this morning, many customers may experience troubles trying to connect to the DSL Service.  Those who were already connected, may experience issues connecting to mail servers.  Technicians are aware of the issue and are working to restore service as quickly as possible.

Services were restored as of 10:15am.

Widomaker NNTP Service to be Discontinued

The Widomaker Newsgroups/Usenet service, powered by Giganews will be discontinued as of January 31st, 2011. Existing customers will continue to be able to access the service until February 28th, 2011.

This decision is in alignment with other Internet Service Providers that have recently terminated their Newsgroups service due to the declining popularity of Newsgroups as customers chose other methods, such as RSS feeds and web browsing to access information.

If you would like to continue using Giganews service, visit http://www.giganews.com/signup/ for a 14-day free trial.

Phone Scam for your Computer!

Be weary of receiving phone calls from a Microsoft Service Center or similar name, claiming they are calling you to help you remove viruses from your computer.  This is likely a scam to take money or even your identity from you.

So far, the callers seem to always call with an accent and try to get you to go to websites to remove the viruses and want to charge you a fee for it using a credit card.

Mostly this scam appears to be attacking UK folks, but phone calls have started hitting US customers and even our own Widomaker Customers.

If you receive such a phone call, do not fall for it.  If you can, record the call or if you can get any information, take it and report it to the authorities. Hang up the phone.
