Have You Been Pwned?

Protect Your Digital Identity with Have I Been Pwned

In today’s digital world, data breaches happen frequently. Your personal information could be exposed without your knowledge, putting your online accounts at risk.

What is Have I Been Pwned?

Have I Been Pwned (HIBP) is a free service that allows you to check if your email address has been compromised in known data breaches. Created by security expert Troy Hunt, this service helps you:

  • Discover if your data has been exposed in breaches
  • Receive notifications when your email appears in new breaches
  • Take action quickly to secure your accounts

How to Sign Up for Breach Notifications

Getting started with HIBP is simple:

  1. Visit haveibeenpwned.com
  2. Enter your email address in the search box
  3. Click on “Notify me” to receive alerts about future breaches
  4. Verify your email address through the confirmation link sent to you

That’s it! You’re now set up to receive notifications whenever your email appears in a new data breach.

What to Do If Your Email Is Found in a Breach

If you discover your email has been compromised, don’t panic. Follow these steps:

  1. Change your passwords immediately – Especially for the affected service and any accounts where you’ve used the same password.
  2. Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) – Add an extra layer of security to your important accounts.
  3. Use a password manager – Create and store unique, complex passwords for each of your accounts.
  4. Monitor your accounts – Watch for suspicious activity on your financial accounts and email.
  5. Be alert for phishing attempts – Breached data can be used to create convincing phishing emails.

Why This Matters

Cybercriminals can use your breached information for identity theft, account takeovers, and targeted phishing attacks. By staying informed about breaches and taking quick action, you significantly reduce your risk of becoming a victim.
