Today is the Last Day to Upgrade to Windows 10 for Free
As you may already be aware, Microsoft has been offering free upgrades to the latest version of Windows (Windows 10) to users of Windows 7 and 8.1. That free upgrade offer ends after today, Friday, July 29, 2016.
For a home user, Windows 10 is considered, by many experts, to be the most secure Windows version, so far. As a result, you may want to consider upgrading before the end of the free upgrade period, that ends today.
If you have not already upgraded, here is some information to help you decide if you want to keep your current version of Windows, or upgrade to Windows 10…
- The Microsoft free upgrade program is only available to users of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. If you have an older version of Windows, such as Windows Vista or XP, this does not apply to you. Purchasing a new computer with Windows 10 pre-installed would be the simplest method of upgrading, when you are ready to do so.
- Widomaker recommends, and enjoys, Windows 7 and 10. Most folks agree that Windows 8 and 8.1 is less user-friendly than Windows 7 and 10. Due to user-friendliness, current users of Windows 8 or 8.1 may benefit from a free upgrade to Windows 10.
- According to Microsoft, Windows 7 will continue to receive critical security updates until, January 14, 2020.
- If you have a Windows 7 computer, and would like to continue using it after, January 14, 2020, then you may benefit from a free upgrade to Windows 10, so that you will continue to receive important security updates to your Windows operating system. Windows 10 is scheduled to receive critical security updates until, October 14, 2025.
- If you have a Windows 7 computer, and plan on replacing it before, January 14, 2020, then you may wish to skip the free upgrade, and continue to use Windows 7 until you replace your computer.
It’s important to note that best practices suggest backing up your computer’s data before attempting an operating system upgrade.

Be aware that, occasionally, the upgrade process can fail, in which case you may need the help of a local computer repair shop. Alternatively, if your computer is still under a warranty or support plan, you may be able to contact your computer manufacturer for technical assistance. After upgrading to Windows 10…
- Many folks prefer to install the Classic Shell™ replacement to the Start Menu. Classic Shell™ provides a replacement Start Menu that looks like the Windows 7 Start Menu.
- Be aware of a useful keyboard shortcut. Windows logo key + X opens the Quick Link menu, providing fast access to open the Control Panel, shutdown the computer, and other functions.
